“All is fair in love and war, and this is a revolution!” – Fred Astaire (Top Hat, 1935)
The actor, dancer, choreographer, and broadway sensation of the early 1900’s is the epitome of what a gentleman should be. Swift on his feet, kind in the heart, and one who made the lives around him graceful. Along with his adored scene partner Ginger Rogers, Astaire made classics; must see movies for my generation. Their collection of films showed the formalities that our current society should have. The timelessness of chivalry and the way both men and women displayed this as a daily routine. It seemed as if times were easier and more pleasant during the times of Astaire; regardless ifthese films showed the wealthier side of things.
So, my mother and I just decided to take ballroom dancing classes, I will keep you Boredists informed on where and how the classes go. Keep Posted!!
The moment has come for me to reveal the fruits of my labor. I know that it has been awhile since anyone has seen anything dealing with Elegant Boredom Bowties. These handmade bowties consist of different materials, including: velvet, cotton, denim, satin, and silk will be released in Spring 2010. They range from formal to casual. You can wear these with a nice pair of jeans or your evening Tux; your choice!
The Wealth Club is making big moves. Drique London with a plethora of mixtapes and now the second 1/2; C. Nance, is now making his move to the mixtape world. Introducing to you The Outcast.
If you’ve heard Drique, then you know the material is dope, and C. Nance brings alot more to the table.
I’ve driven across the country, made new friends, been to new schools, and with the combination of IC, my teammates and myself, have impacted some lives. Let the pics do the talking… BTW, I’m on Lookbook.nu. Progress is being made.
Today is Officially September 4th, meaning that I am now 19 years young. My day has started off very well. I got off off work at 12 a.m. wit a cup of Belv to celebrate and then headed to my friends house. We chilled, listened to some music, got our blood a lil bit warmer and then headed home. I woke to my mother screaming its my Birthday with a a bag in her hand of cards and a small present (birthdays become more of an appreciation thing now and not “O, how much was my gift”).
Today is going to be a good day! headed to CityTech to go register for classes and then of to the Rugby store and then ESPN Zone with my aunt and niece.
P.S. I am sry for my long awaited comeback to Elegant Boredom, but work has kinda taken over my life lately. I will putting up the pictures from the Elegant Boredom End of the Summer Brownstone Bash shortly, along with the pictures of the Bowties.
After giving it time to be thought out and talking to various people as to building up a cast, I’ve decided to take things a step further and give you The Rough Draft. A magazine/journal that will be a story book to take you through the next couple of months of the life I am living with a couple other of my comrades. This new lifestyle hasn’t been an easy transition, but definitely one that’s worth it. I want to give you all a hand held version that will take you through the transformation that has taken place and all the bells, whistles, ups and downs that come with it. Be on the look out for updates- but there are definitely some very creative concepts to go with this. Mucho photography of my own will be placed in it- and Fader Magazine will notice me haha.
P.S.
As we work on the mag and decipher between what works and doesn’t, don’t be surprised of any name changes
“The moment we are born, we begin dying..” – Anonymous
Allow me to use this post to express the thoughts on my mind and heart at this present moment in my life. Today was truly remarkable. My job at Invisible Children doesn’t seem like a job to me. More of a life lesson or lifestyle I’ve had the privilege of taking part in. As far as the statement above plays out, what is the average goal in a person’s life? To become successful? Rich or well off? To be the best? I truly believe that from birth, we are immediately put in the rat race and that we are alway in a constant battle of comparison. “The moment we are born, we begin dying..” Life has become just a materialistic as the clothing we wear. We truly take it for granted. We wake up every morning and continue a routine lifestyle that is approved by society.. FUCK THAT! (sorry mom)..
I wake up every morning because I love my life. Heres an idea, instead of always looking out for number one and doing what’s best for you, why not live for someone else. Isn’t that love anyway? The concept of you being able to feel and say “I love that person and I would do anything I could for him/her.” Why do I have to be the best? Why can’t I live happily at last? Because society only excepts first place?
Does me not having a highly respected job not make me a “somebody”? Take a minute to pinch yourself in order to have this realization. Do you feel that? Your a living body mass, you roam the planet just like everybody else- you are a “somebody” just as much as the celebrities you admire. Life is a gift between non-existence and death, cherish it- utilize it, make the most of it. Take this time to get out of the rat race… Seriously… Just walk off the track… Change into some souls (footwear) your comfortable in, and sit on the bleachers and watch the competition you’ve been in.. It’s a race that you’ve been running your whole life, a constant circle, it just leaves you ending right where you begin.
Over the past year, this blog has served as the portal in which Elegant Boredom can share with viewers our fashion, style, and life. More of an example of why we live the way we do… Why we chose to be ourselves and take the road less traveled… We use this blog to invite you into our lives and call you our family, because that’s what we are, family..
“Peace be the journey”. Between becoming a vegetarian, preparing for a national tour and reinventing myself- I’ve been able to snake in another photo shoot. This one is easily my favorite of all time. Thanks to the phenomenal cast of characters I’ve had the privilege to place myself in, a great amount of soul searching and defining has been done. Life is a beautiful thing, and I’m 100% confident when I say that we all take it for granted. My desire for photography has grown stronger with each day and documenting the life I live and the people in it has become my priority. Life itself is an art, each day serving as a blank canvas… Hit the jump to see how I paint mines… How will you paint yours?
So while my team and I work day in and out on the sunny West Coast to help out a great cause, Taz has been working behind the scenes to start up the first of what will be an annual tradition. I won’t bore you with all the details (mainly ’cause that’s Taz’s job). But just know I’ll be there in heart. Props to all the EB Family out there. And if you do want to know anything about the party, hit us up with an email. ElegantBoredom@gmail.com
If I had any doubts before this, I guess I can throw them out the window now because there is no question that I AM A FRIKKIN ROADIE. As overloading as the information and workload that I’ve been taking in may seem, just like the rest my amazing peers here at the Roadie domicile, we’re hitting the ground running and we’re taking it in stride.
BTW: When it comes to the Roadie house…. The Real World vs. Road Rules house, The Flavor of Love House and any other T.V. show that has a ridiculous amount of people in, they have nothing on the Roadie house. 60 people under 1 roof, 3 floors of tom foolery, and 60 different unique personalities. If they gave us a reality show, we might just end the phase of ignorant/horrible MTV and BET reality spin offs forever. But, it’s time to get back to the business of contacting Barack, stopping Kony, liberate the children and SAVE THE WORLD!! Got to go to the phone booth and switch into my superhero uniform.
And while I’m doing all of this, go to the website, let one click lead to another- and get the info, watch the movies, learn what we’re doing and find out how you can help. www.InvisibleChildren.com
As you can see Bow-ties are my thing. I love to wear bow-ties for any occasion; with a tux or even just with a pair of jeans and a fitted cap. The yellow one and the green one are actually home-made bow-ties. And will soon be available to the public.
Here’s the plan: bring the art of bow-ties to the black youth of Brooklyn. Teach them how to tie bow-ties, ties, and how and where to wear them. With patterns that will please any audience, age group, or personality. So stay tuned for the essence of bow-ties; Elegant Boredom Bow-ties!!!
P.S. coming soon, an instructional on how to tie Bow-ties and ties…
So as I entered this week, I found myself hustling to take a mandatory placement test- and done with the short lived job at Sonic. So at the end of each day we all seem to migrate back to what I now believe is our Mecca, Garzone’s house. But not his house exactly, his backyard. On returning back to Princeton, I sat in Garzones back yard and noticed a fire pit, surely it had some age on it- but it hadn’t been used in ages. So as the story goes, that night a fire was to be made.
So after about 2 hours of trying to get the fire to light, we didn’t give up and put our heads together to eventually make the flames dance. We must have sat at the fire for at least 3 hours relaxing and having conversation.. But not just any regular conversation, it was more like the conversations you have in a classroom or what you hear amongst your elders. My friends… I think it’s safe to say we’re growing up. But to nip this in the bud, the ritual is two days strong now and will probably be in effect for years to come through out my friendships and lifetime.. I’m feeling kind of creative about this whole fire pit thing, so expect our version of this: and by the way- if anyone steals our idea, we know thought of it first.
To wake up in the morning means that there is a day to be handled. And what better way than to handle it with food and fashion together. The greatest food to be cooked in Brooklyn along with the style of GQ makes a great pair. Edible Brooklyn is a magazine that discusses the culture of food in the best borough in NYc, Brooklyn.
So, this is what i wake up to in the morning. The essence of edible food and the sartorially savvy GQ magazine.
P.S. They forgot to mention Peaches Restaurant (which is where I work ;D) in Edible.
This mixtape has some really dope tracks. Drique has done remixes to songs that people don’t normally think of, making him quite unique in his own style. Download the Mixtape to see what I’m talking bout.
so… what the hell could I possibly be doing that has kept me away from the blog for long periods at a time…. let me think
Well, besides the slave hours I’ve been working at Sonic, I’ve had aaalllloooottt of work to do with Invisible Children before I jump flight to California. So in preparations I had to do some writing and listen to some speeches, one in which I felt I related 1085038504.455% with. (Sorry… I know the exaggeration was probably not needed) If you got the time, check it out.
Intriguing right… Yea, I know.. well- keeping the theme of creativity alive, as of lately I’ve strayed away from my digital Cannon and have found myself keeping my hand on my Pentax K1ooo. Just the way the 50 mm lens captures everyday life and actions are
ones that I can’t match with my digital Cannon. None-the-less, both will be on deck during my road-trip/internship endeavors. And I’ll also have some of the Pentax shots up once Rite Aid decides to be true to there “1 Hour Photo” banner that hangs up inside.. (Can you believe they’re making me wait a week to get these pictures developed?!?!?)
OOOOOO!! And if you haven’t noticed, investments have been made. No more of the “ElegantBoredom.wordpress.com” stuff… Now its just ElegantBoredom.com… That’s correct, DOT COM!! The way it should have always been. And in another investment- well… lets just say I couldn’t say no.. Once you see em’ you’ll know what I mean..
Yea… my jaw hit the ground hard the first time I saw them to… Until next time fam… Deuces…
For a while now, I have been seeing many familiar outfits;
making my days seem like overly recurring deja vu. Although they hold a grand role in fashion, I have noticed that many people are depending too much on trends. Assuming that all of the suspects/victims (you decide) are not and can not be identical twins and/or be on the same city-wide equestrian (horse riding: which ralph lauren bases his line off of) team, I think those responsible should hop off of the polo train and find another band wagon, if you have to.
Fashion is all about trends, which are all recycled, so don’t worry too much about having to wear that polo with the stripe across the front, less than 4 times a week. If trends stay on stuck rather that constantly flowing in and out, then fashion wont progress as much. I hope that we all would not be satisfied with just sitting in the fourth grade for more than “2″ years
Please, I feel as if I’m stuck in the twilight zone. Your shirt is tired, give it a sub. Has fashion really become so simple, that creativity has come to: what polo outfit should I put on today. Yes, Ralph Lauren decorum and style is on that top level along with the other well-known victims in new york and beyond; vinnies, gucci and nike. They may not mind now, but im sure they will mind later if they by some very small chance become played out by over-kill.
Take a daring chance and explore your creativity as well as other brands; make your on trend, do you and hop off ralphy for a bit
My name is Berchell the Beraniac beyond the life before you. I am the co-founder and designer for the new up and coming clothing line Ber&Ber…you can look me up on facebook: Berchell Kyle Egerton
Its been a long time.. I know.. and once again I apologize. But in my absence I’ve been brewing up some things. In the mix of working at Sonic’s (66 hours a week… can u say “OVERTIME” and “TIME AND A HALF”?!?) I’ve been getting myself prepared for August 1st. Last week I got a call from the people of Invisible Children letting me know that I was chosen to be one of their Roadies for the 2009 fall season.
This internship will have me traveling around the county with 3 other people in a van spreading the knowledge of child soldiers in Northern Uganda. Its a opportunity like no other- and trust my camera will be tight at my side. It will be a road trip to remember. More stuff to come soon, but right now…. A brotha gotta head to work.
While doing my internship in Jamaica I had the chance to visualize first hand the city of Kingston. It is honestly a beautiful place with such rich history and culture. Just like any other city in the world it has its problems, even so it has won a place in my heart. This is a mural I saw that I loved at the entrance to one of UWI medical building’s in Mona, Kingston.
Last week, me, Drique, Ellis (the camera guy), and Tiara-Asada went up to Central Park to do an interview. Even with the on and off rain, we managed to get everything done. The video footage will be ready shortly, but here are a few pics of the day:
Photography: Tiara-Asada

Yes, today the GreatMicheal Jackson passed due to a cardiac arrest. It has been a very heart felt day… for those who actually grew up along side of Micheal and have personally seen his music triumph… to those whose parents made them listen to Micheal, because “this is what good music sounds like.”
At the restaurant I work at, soon as the news was heard, good ole Micheal Jackson was played for the rest of the night. The environment immediately changed, from dry and mellow to playful and energetic. All the staff started to dance on the spot. This is the type of music that was made by this genius artist. Music that just makes you want to dance, and sing along to every word, and to over exaggerate every high note…. It was great!!!!
Here are a few of my favorites over Micheal Jacksons career:
Just look at his outfits in these two videos!! He was a complete fashion statement in himself!!! He has influenced many of folk in the way they present themselves…
Yes… your assumptions are correct. I am no longer an employee of the unemployed corporation, but a staff member at America’s finest fast food restaurant, SONIC… And no, I refuse to be one of those dudes on the skates.. I will not bust my ass for your amusement.. But this has the makings of being a great summer gig. Reminds me of Good Burger.
